One of the leading book marketplaces, Albris started as a small independent marketplace in 1998. Alibris' marketplace software supports a half-dozen e-commerce store fronts including Alibris UK, Waterstones Markeplace, and Half Price Books Marketplace. As the Web Manager for Alibris (later Monsoon Commerce), I had a myriad of responsibilities ranging from IA, wireframing, visual designs, front-end code, and site optimization. Sporting an agile methodology, we could move quickly and efficiently to tackle multiple projects with tight time constraints.
I worked with an outside agency to help format our complex web code into a slimmed-down, usable, mobile site. Stripping away the heavier assets and focusing on key shopping use cases, the Alibris mobile site is streamlined, responsive, and as simple to use as a native mobile app. Additionally, I played a key role in our SEO strategy by identifying outdated front-end code that was bloating the site. This was done to prevent a lower Google page rank based on site responsiveness and initial load time. I used Yahoo's YSlow and Google's Page Speed to constantly test and refine the results which made a significant impact by decreasing site load time.
I'm a user experience professional living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have over 15 years of Web design experience and I'm driven by challenges of all shapes and sizes. I have a huge passion for the UX methodologies that allow me to build incredible products and bring smiles to a customer's face. My ideal situation is to work with a diverse group of passionate technologists to ignite my passion for learning and also allow me to pass on what I've learned from my own experiences.
